The Duke of Thorington approaches Callista Briarley with the proposal that she should marry his youngest brother, Andrew in order to secure Maidenstone Abbey and the estate. Andrew is not very enthusiastic about that prospect as he thinks Callie has insufficient knowledge of society and is likely to embarrass him.
To change that, Gavin decides to teach her everything she needs to know in order to try to change his brother’s mind. But to his mind, she’s not an embarrassment at all – he likes her outspokenness and her ability to go toe-to-toe with him. Still, Gavin is determined to see her marry Andrew, no matter that their meetings bring him and Callie closer together to the point they can’t deny their attraction to each other.
I loved Thorington and Calista, separately and together. Both are strong characters who are not really comfortable in society which doesn’t allow them to be who they truly are. And both are skilled at letting society only see what it wants to seem and what they want it to see.
Callie and Gavin together as a couple are magnificent. Their chemistry, the sparks that fly between them, their humorous banter, their discussions – everything made me fall for them both and hope for their happy ending. I loved the sarcasm both of them wielded so masterfully.
The love scenes are very well done. They’re sensual and sex, but there’s also real feeling and romance.
All in all, Duke of Thorns is definitely a keeper. Sara Ramsey is giving her best with this book and I enjoyed every minute with it. I can’t wait to read more about this family and want to visit Callie and Gavin again.
